Which markets does Rohde & Schwarz address and what are your expectations for the development of the European space market?
The satellite industry provides cutting-edge solutions for communication, navigation, remote sensing, surveillance and Earth observation. What new trends do you anticipate and what market demands do you see evolving/changing over the next few years?
Small satellites will definitely influence the industry within the next few years. With applications ranging from communication and data links all the way to remote sensing, manufacturers of small satellites in large MEO and LEO constellations will be experiencing new test and quality assurance challenges.
We see a clear demand for flexible test and measurement solutions in a wide range of instruments supporting the individual business needs of these companies. This is a challenge Rohde & Schwarz can address, even today.

What products will you be featuring at the show this year and what response are you expecting?
The high-performance R&S®FSW signal and spectrum analyser helps engineers accomplish the most demanding tasks. Its wide internal analysis bandwidth allows the characterization of wideband components and communications systems, and its unparalleled phase noise facilitates the development of high-performance oscillators such as those used in satellites. A state-of-the-art multitouch display with gesture support ensures straightforward and intuitive operation.
The R&S®SMW200A is a vector signal generator for the most demanding applications. Because of its flexibility, performance and intuitive operation, it is a perfect tool for generating complex, digitally modulated signals of high quality for testing of satellite and ground station receivers. It can also be turned into a powerful, feature-rich GNSS simulator. With its capability to simulate multi-constellation and multi-frequency (MCMF), multi-antenna and multi-vehicle scenarios, it is able to cover a variety of high-end GNSS applications.
The R&S®ZNA vector network analysers are the high-end series of the R&S VNA portfolio. The excellent RF performance is combined with a wide range of software features and a unique hardware concept. The R&S INRADIOS CSM Server is the central software component that manages to monitor the quality of satellite links by multi-user access to multiple spectrum analyser devices. The CSM Server provides network device drivers for various remote spectrum analysers. Measurement results are captured by the CSM Server, processed and forwarded to the CSM Desktop .
The new R&S®PKU100 solid-state power amplifier for Ku-band satellite uplink applications is available as an indoor and outdoor model. Based on solid-state technology, these amplifiers offer adaptive linearisation to improve shoulder attenuation at the amplifier output. All amplifiers feature a previously unattainable efficiency and compact form factor.
What are you most looking forward to about Space Tech Expo Europe 2019?
We would like to see how the industry is changing, what are some of the challenges it is facing, and of course, how Rohde & Schwarz can help.
