Operating in Harsh Environments
The X80-Q FURY is a quad 12.5 Gbps per channel transceiver for parallel optical data communications. The X80-Q has 4 Tx + 4 Rx channels, for up to 50 Gbps data transfer in both directions simultaneously. The X80-Q FURY integrates a transceiver IC along with a GaAs Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) array, a GaAs PIN photodetector (PD) array, and a glass lens array with a lens guide mechanism allowing registration of the RVCON parallel fibre termination.
The X80-Q FURY may be reflow soldered onto a circuit board. The X80-Q FURY is designed for high-reliability systems that require operation in harsh environments, including space and extended temperature ranges. It includes advanced built-in-test functionality for continuous monitoring of operating conditions, both internal IC status and external parameters such as fibre-optic link-loss and signal quality. Control of bias settings and readout of built-in test sensors is accomplished via a digital SPI interface.

Space application testing complete
- Heavy ion: tested to 50 MeV·cm2/mg (1e7/cm2 fluence @ 85C) – no SEFIs, no latch-up
- Proton: tested to 200 MeV (1e13/cm2 fluence) - no SEFIs, no latch-up
- Shock: up to 2,000 Gs SRS (X,Y,Z) / vibration: 24 Grms (X,Y,Z) – no errors, no damage
- Thermal vacuum: -40 to 100 C, internal temperature rise of 12 C
